Supplement FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

General

What are PRISM strips?

PRISM strips are dissolvable oral strips formulated with functional ingredients to support focus, calm, or sleep. Each strip delivers a precise, labeled dose — no measuring or mixing required.

Are these supplements, not drugs?

Yes. PRISM strips are dietary supplements, not medications. They have not been evaluated by the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease or medical condition.

Ingredients & Doses

What does each strip contain?

The exact ingredient amounts are listed on each product's label and product page. Always refer to the current label for the most accurate dosing information, as formulations may be updated.

What is caffeine, and how much is in each strip?

Caffeine is a naturally occurring stimulant found in coffee, tea, and cacao. The amount per strip is shown on the product label. Caffeine may increase alertness and reduce the perception of fatigue.

Use caution or avoid if you:

  • Are sensitive to caffeine or experience anxiety, jitteriness, or heart palpitations from coffee or tea
  • Have a history of heart arrhythmia, hypertension, or anxiety disorder
  • Are pregnant or nursing (see below)
  • Take stimulant medications, certain antidepressants (MAOIs), or other caffeine-containing products
  • Are under 18 years of age

What is L-theanine?

L-theanine is an amino acid found naturally in green tea. It is commonly used alongside caffeine to support a sense of calm focus. The labeled dose per strip is listed on the product page and packaging.

Use caution if you: take blood pressure medications, sedatives, or stimulants, as L-theanine may have additive effects.

What is GABA?

GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid) is an amino acid that acts as an inhibitory neurotransmitter in the brain. It is included in some PRISM formulas to support relaxation. The labeled dose is shown on the product packaging.

Use caution if you: take medications that affect the central nervous system, including sedatives, anti-anxiety medications, or antiepileptics, as effects may be additive.

What is melatonin?

Melatonin is a hormone naturally produced by the body that helps regulate the sleep–wake cycle. PRISM uses melatonin in Prism Down to support sleep onset. The exact dose is listed on the product label.

Use caution if you:

  • Take blood thinners, immunosuppressants, diabetes medications, or hormonal contraceptives
  • Have an autoimmune condition or seizure disorder
  • Need to drive or operate machinery — melatonin may cause drowsiness
  • Are pregnant or nursing (see below)

Melatonin supplements are not recommended for children without guidance from a pediatric clinician.

What are B vitamins (B6 and B12)?

Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) and Vitamin B12 (cobalamin) are water-soluble vitamins that support energy metabolism and nervous system function. Both are present in many foods and are generally well tolerated at the doses used in dietary supplements.

Note on B6: Long-term use of high-dose supplemental B6 (amounts substantially above the Tolerable Upper Intake Level of 100 mg/day for adults) has been associated with nerve-related symptoms. The amount in PRISM strips is listed on the label — compare it to your total daily intake from all sources if you take multiple B-vitamin-containing products.

What mushroom ingredients may be included?

Some PRISM products may include functional mushroom extracts (such as lion's mane or others). Specific mushrooms and their amounts are listed on each product label.

Use caution if you:

  • Have a known allergy to fungi or mushrooms
  • Take immunosuppressant medications — some mushroom extracts may affect immune activity
  • Are pregnant or nursing (see below)

Who Should Avoid or Use Caution

Are PRISM strips safe for everyone?

PRISM strips are formulated for healthy adults. The following individuals should consult a qualified healthcare provider before use:

  • Anyone under 18 years of age
  • Pregnant or nursing individuals
  • People with a diagnosed medical condition, especially cardiovascular, neurological, hormonal, autoimmune, or psychiatric conditions
  • Anyone taking prescription or over-the-counter medications or other supplements
  • Individuals with known allergies to any listed ingredient

Are these strips safe during pregnancy or while nursing?

No PRISM strip has been tested for safety in pregnancy or lactation. Out of caution, we recommend that pregnant or nursing individuals avoid these products entirely and speak with their OB-GYN or midwife before using any supplement.

Interactions

Can I take PRISM strips with my medications?

Possibly, but you should check first. Some ingredients — including caffeine, melatonin, GABA, L-theanine, and mushroom extracts — may interact with certain medications. Common categories of concern include:

  • Stimulants or ADHD medications — additive stimulant effects from caffeine
  • Sedatives, sleep aids, or anti-anxiety medications — additive sedation from melatonin, GABA, or L-theanine
  • Blood thinners (anticoagulants) — some supplements may affect clotting
  • Antidepressants (especially MAOIs) — caffeine and some amino acids may interact
  • Immunosuppressants — mushroom extracts may affect immune response
  • Hormonal medications or contraceptives — melatonin may interact with hormone pathways

This list is not exhaustive. If you take any medication, consult a pharmacist or clinician before adding any supplement.

Can I stack multiple PRISM strips in one day?

We recommend following the suggested use on each product label and not exceeding the stated serving. If you use multiple PRISM products or combine them with other supplements or caffeine sources, be mindful of your total daily intake of each ingredient.

Onset & Timing

How quickly do the strips take effect?

Dissolvable oral strips are absorbed through the mucous membranes of the mouth, which may allow ingredients to enter the bloodstream more quickly than traditional capsules or tablets. Individual response varies based on body weight, metabolism, food intake, and sensitivity. Generally, you may notice effects within 15–45 minutes, but this is not guaranteed for every person or every ingredient.

How long do effects last?

Duration depends on the specific ingredients and your individual metabolism. Caffeine's effects typically last several hours. Melatonin is intended to support sleep onset rather than maintain sleep through the night. Refer to each product's label for guidance on timing and suggested use.

Storage

How should I store PRISM strips?

Store strips in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, heat, and humidity. Do not store in a bathroom or near a stove. Keep out of reach of children. Do not use strips past the expiration date printed on the packaging. If a strip appears discolored, crumbly, or has an unusual odor, discard it.

Flavor

Do the strips contain artificial sweeteners or flavors?

Flavor and sweetener details are listed on each product label and product page. If you have sensitivities to specific sweeteners (such as sucralose or stevia) or flavor compounds, review the full ingredient list before use.

Will the strip taste bad?

Flavor experience is subjective. PRISM strips are designed to dissolve quickly and have a pleasant taste, but individuals vary in their sensitivity to certain ingredient flavors (for example, some B vitamins have a slightly earthy taste). If flavor is a concern, checking individual product reviews may help set expectations.

When to Consult a Clinician

When should I talk to a doctor or pharmacist before using PRISM?

Please consult a qualified healthcare provider before use if you:

  • Take any prescription or OTC medication
  • Have any chronic or acute health condition
  • Are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or nursing
  • Are under 18
  • Have experienced adverse reactions to caffeine, melatonin, amino acids, or mushroom products in the past

If you experience any unexpected symptoms after using a PRISM product — including rapid heartbeat, difficulty breathing, severe headache, rash, or unusual drowsiness — discontinue use and seek medical attention promptly.

Where can I find more information?

For ingredient-specific research, the NIH Office of Dietary Supplements (ods.od.nih.gov) is a reliable, publicly available resource. For personalized guidance, speak with your physician, pharmacist, or registered dietitian.
